Find your tuning.
Choose a preset, start listening, and pluck an open string. Auto-detect follows the closest target string. For a big tuning change, tap the string you’re adjusting to lock onto it.
The strings run from the thickest (6) to the thinnest (1). The small number beside each note is its octave, so low E₂ and high E₄ are easy to tell apart.
Bring the needle to the centre.
Flat means the pitch is too low; tighten gently. Sharp means it’s too high; loosen gently. Green means you’re within five cents of the target. There are 100 cents in a semitone.
Mute the other strings, use a quiet room, and let each note settle after plucking. If no clear pitch appears, move closer to your microphone. Pitch detection works best on a single note, from 55 to 1,200 Hz.
Privacy and how it works
Your browser asks for microphone permission when you start. Audio is analysed on your device without recording or uploading it. Stopping, leaving the page, or switching to another tab releases the microphone. Use HTTPS or localhost.
The tuner estimates the fundamental pitch using the YIN method and checks for a stable note. Chords, background music, and very quiet signals may not produce a reliable reading. All presets use A4 = 440 Hz.
This is a live browser tool. It does not currently offer an audio-upload API or MCP endpoint.
What it does
Tune your guitar online with chromatic pitch detection and eight tuning presets. Free, with microphone audio processed on your device.
How to use it
- Choose a tuning, start listening and pluck one open string. Lock a target string when making a large tuning change.
- Mute other strings and adjust gently until the reading is stable and centred. Requires microphone permission and HTTPS.
Example
Choose Standard tuning and pluck the lowest open string. The target is E2, approximately 82.41 Hz.
Methodology
YIN estimates fundamental frequency; stability filtering reduces jitter. Presets use A4 = 440 Hz and a ±5 cent in-tune indicator.
Limitations
Single notes from 55–1,200 Hz. Chords, background music and weak signals may not yield a reliable pitch.
