Buddy Code

Independent software engineering & AI

Solve the right problem.
Make it work.

I help product and operations teams turn slow workflows and promising ideas into software they can use and maintain. From the first technical decision to delivery, with AI where it earns its place.

01 / Ways to work together

A clear problem.
A useful outcome.

Book a workshop or talk, get an independent technical view, or bring a product through to delivery. Every engagement starts with an agreed scope, audience and useful outcome.

01Discover

Discovery & strategy

Find where software or AI could improve a real workflow. Map the problem, constraints and opportunities with the people doing the work.

A prioritised scope, success criteria and a delivery plan.

02Validate

Prototypes & proof of concept

Test a product idea or AI use case before committing to a full build. Put a focused prototype in front of users and examine the failure cases.

A working prototype, evaluation findings and a recommendation on what comes next.

03Build

Product & internal tool development

Take a defined problem through architecture, implementation and deployment. Build web products and internal tools around the way your team works.

Working software, automated checks, documentation and a practical handover.

04Connect

Integrations & workflow automation

Connect existing systems and reduce repetitive handoffs or duplicate data entry. Use AI where it helps, with explicit permissions and human review where needed.

An integrated workflow with exception handling and clear operating guidance.

05Review

Technical & AI system reviews

Get an independent review of architecture, generated code or an AI feature. Examine maintainability, access controls, reliability and how outputs are evaluated.

Prioritised findings and a practical remediation plan for the agreed scope.

06Improve delivery

Coding agents & CI/CD

Help your team introduce coding agents and strengthen the path to production. Improve automated tests, release checks, monitoring and recovery.

A reviewed delivery workflow, meaningful checks and guidance your team can use.

07Learn together

Hands-on workshops

Practical sessions for engineering, product or leadership teams. Topics include AI opportunity mapping, effective coding-agent workflows and evaluating AI-generated work.

A tailored agenda, guided exercises and concrete next steps for your team.

08Share ideas

Talks & public speaking

Talks for company events, meetups and conferences on AI-assisted engineering, the changing role of developers and building dependable software with agents.

An audience-specific talk with practical examples and space for questions.

09Stay supported

Ongoing technical advisory

A regular technical sounding board as your product or team evolves. Work through architecture choices, delivery priorities, AI adoption and difficult trade-offs.

Agreed review sessions, written recommendations and follow-up actions.

02 / How I work

Direct collaboration.
Sound engineering.

Work directly with the engineer making the technical decisions and delivering the software. I use AI throughout the work, while staying responsible for understanding the system and reviewing what ships.

  1. 01

    Understand before building

Start with the people doing the work. Agree what should improve, whether that is time spent on a task, avoidable errors or a product capability, and how we will measure it.

  2. 02

    Build in small, verifiable steps

Test a useful slice against real examples before expanding it. Review generated code, check permissions and failure cases, and evaluate AI outputs wherever the product depends on them.

  3. 03

    Plan for life after launch

Make deployment, monitoring and recovery part of delivery. Leave clear documentation and agree who will operate and maintain the system, including any ongoing support.

03 / From my workbench

Software you can try.

Buddy Code Tools is my own collection of free browser utilities for files, data, calculations and everyday tasks. Try the tools and explore their documented methods and limitations.

The collection puts practical engineering choices on display: local file processing, explicit input limits, and clear behaviour when something cannot be processed. It is a working product you can inspect, with the same attention to usability and failure cases that I bring to client work.

What would make
work better?

Tell me what your team is trying to do, what is getting in the way, and what a useful result would look like. For a workshop or talk, share the audience and topic you have in mind. Include your timing and budget range if you have them.
