GPX route inspector

Inspect a route outline, distance and elevation, then download a simplified GPX without using a map service.

Up to 2 MB / 20,000 points. Segment endpoints are kept. Simplified export retains coordinates and elevations only; timestamps and extensions are omitted. No map service.

What it does

Inspect a route outline, distance and elevation, then download a simplified GPX without using a map service.

How to use it

  1. Import GPX up to 2 MB / 20,000 track or route points. Waypoint-only files are not supported.
  2. Review original distance, available elevation gain/loss and the north-up outline. Missing elevations are omitted from the profile.
  3. Choose 0–1,000 m spacing and download simplified GPX or the original-route summary JSON.

Example

A 10 m point spacing retains segment endpoints and skips intervening points close to the last retained point.

Methodology

Haversine distance uses a spherical Earth radius of 6,371,008.8 m, summing only within segments. Elevation gain/loss uses adjacent available elevations without smoothing. Linear radial-distance simplification retains endpoints.

Limitations

Simplification is spacing-based, not a maximum geometric-error guarantee. Export retains coordinates/elevation only, omitting timestamps, extensions and source metadata. Outline is approximate and may stretch across the antimeridian. No navigation or elevation correction.

Automation

This tool runs in your browser. No upload API or MCP endpoint is available.
