Cutting-stock planner

Arrange one-dimensional cuts in finite stock lengths and inspect offcuts, saw kerf and unplaced pieces.

Each row is length, quantity. Maximum 500 stock lengths and 500 pieces. Best-fit decreasing heuristic; not guaranteed optimal. Conservatively reserves one kerf per piece, including the last piece.

What it does

Arrange one-dimensional cuts in finite stock lengths and inspect offcuts, saw kerf and unplaced pieces.

How to use it

  1. Enter length, quantity on each stock and piece row. Use the same units throughout.
  2. Calculate and inspect every cut and remaining offcut. Download the plan as JSON.
  3. Processing stays in your browser. No upload or sign-up.

Example

Try three 2400 mm stock lengths, four 800 mm pieces and three 500 mm pieces with 3 mm kerf.

Methodology

Best-fit decreasing chooses existing stock with the smallest sufficient remainder, then the shortest unused stock that fits. Reserves one kerf for every piece.

Limitations

Up to 500 stock lengths and 500 required pieces. Positive lengths up to 1,000,000 units; kerf 0–1,000. Heuristic, not globally optimal. No sheet nesting or material-strength assessment.

Automation

This tool runs in your browser. No upload API or MCP endpoint is available.
